Eyes Closed
Feb. 18th, 2010 02:09 pmToday seemed so far away
As I looked out of the window.
Cars drove by, flailing water as they sailed
Past us on the highway,
And in the breeze I caught the hint
Of yesterday’s morning
When the coffee cup smashed
And the voices stopped,
Trailing away to nothingness.
I used to think that if I closed my eyes long enough
It would all go away,
But the blackness only made it worse
And in the end I always had to open them,
Afraid that something might have changed
Or moved without me knowing.
As I looked out of the window.
Cars drove by, flailing water as they sailed
Past us on the highway,
And in the breeze I caught the hint
Of yesterday’s morning
When the coffee cup smashed
And the voices stopped,
Trailing away to nothingness.
I used to think that if I closed my eyes long enough
It would all go away,
But the blackness only made it worse
And in the end I always had to open them,
Afraid that something might have changed
Or moved without me knowing.
